Racial Inequality And Discrimination Is A Major Factor

Racial inequality and discrimination is a major factor that is still present in America’s society today. Considering the fact that America’s history of racial complications is still an issue in today’s society. Minorities (African American, Asian Americans, Hispanics/Latinos) which is accounted for almost half of the population if combined, are the ones that face discrimination the most, typically everywhere they go and especially in the workforce. They are not treated as equally as everyone else and for that, it is a problem that should never be overlooked. From a societal standpoint, these stereotypes that would identify and categorize others is one of the contributing factors that make society judge and discriminate others. Roscigno and his group, conducted a research study based on minority vulnerability pertaining to employment and examining patterns of discrimination against middle class African Americans specifically. The minority vulnerability thesis suggests that â€Å"segregation, job networks, and ostensibly race neutral employer decision making continue to put minority workers in situations of vulnerability when it comes to hiring, mobility, and firing† (Roscigno). An example of this would be that if employers were to choose between whites and blacks with both criminal and no criminal records, then they will most likely to pick whites with a criminal record over blacks without a criminal record. Based on the results, they concluded that African Americans have long experienced work place discriminations. The status, work skills, and job context could somehow offer some protection, but from the results of the research suggest (to be on the safe side) that African Americans should be cautious on policies as they are more likely to lose their job through â€Å"discriminating firing† (Roscigno).
